The first talent that a teacher should have is to discover and extract the talents of children. Everyone, absolutely everyone, carries something inside, so we should encourage children to take out those talents.
But what is talent really?
Maybe we should change the concept we have of talent. Talking about talents is not talking about great artists, each person has their own and can use it to contribute something to society. The television programs where the so-called "talents" come out or are discovered are good for spending time watching TV but have a very narrow definition of the concept of being talented. Because whoever does not get to that program may be frustrated or even if he gets to participate if he is eliminated he may be frustrated or if he does not win in the end the contest may be frustrated too. Frustration can be a consequence of this type or notion of talent. Talent does not mean that one has to succeed in something in every way. He is not famous because he has done something. These programs are good because you discover incredible people of how they sing or how they dance, etc. but there are other types of talents. All, absolutely all of us have talents for something, they can be artistic, technical, mental, physical, personal or social. Complementing and making our talent contribute to making society a better world, that is what can change things.

Playing the guitar, singing, telling jokes well (without getting stuck), whistling difficult melodies, we all have our talents. And, just as there are cooking and sports enthusiasts, there are people who get pleasure from constantly learning new things. It seems that this has to do with the experiences lived in childhood. That is why it is important that the child is in contact with different environments, not only in the day to day family but also to listen to different conversations, ways of thinking and different cultures.
We all have something inside, think if you have any of the following talents:
・Positive attitude
If you do not have it, you can improve. We would never send a pessimist to the moon, positive attitude and teamwork.
・Sense of humor
・Self-management skills
These are self-management skills at a level that can be transferred to the children you handle in the classroom.
・Creativity
While it may be hidden in some individuals, everyone possesses creativity.
・Communication skills
・Empathy
If you have empathy, that ability will quickly reflect in your students.
・Conflict management skills
If you don't have this skill, research how to better manage conflicts. This skill is beneficial for both adults and children.
・Leadership
・Sharp sense of smell
・Ability to summarize
・Persuasiveness
・Sense of responsibility
・Ability to fix things
・Patience
・Listening skills
This is more of an art than a talent.
・Perseverance
This is one of the most important qualities that teachers must possess. We encounter many obstacles, so we need persistent perseverance to constantly think about what we can do for the children and not give up. Some good teachers leave the classroom halfway because they couldn't demonstrate this ability.
・Altruism
Doing things without expecting anything in return. Share altruism with children every day.
・Learning ability
・Curiosity
Now, how can these abilities be discovered?
Many children go through life without being listened to, so if we want to find talents, the first thing parents and teachers must do is listen to the children. While dialogue is important, even more crucial is the act of listening. Listening is an art.
Parents and teachers can start by exploring all the senses of the children. Remember that they are incredibly creative beings. They need us to open doors for them.
For example, let them experience outdoor activities, sports, or activities related to nature. You can also take them to various artistic performances or expose them to different genres of music and culture. If we are not interested or do not like something, we might not share it with children or those around us. However, even if we are not interested ourselves, it is better not to show it. Teachers and parents do not have the adaptability that children have. Put aside your likes and dislikes and create opportunities for children to experience various things.
At times, helping in the kitchen to experience smells and tastes, or cooking with foreign spices, can be a wonderful experience. Allowing friends to engage in theater or presentations is also a good idea. Instead of letting them retreat into a small world, we can open up a creative world for them. Perhaps this is not a new story for you; you probably already know and use it in schools, classrooms, and homes. Keep these things in mind every day and practice them while making improvements.
As mentioned earlier, finding hidden talents is a top priority. Once found, hold onto it firmly and cherish it like a seed. Talent is there, but we must not neglect it; we need to water, nurture, and polish it persistently every day.
The most important thing in finding that talent is to listen carefully to their stories. After spending a lot of time with children in the classroom, occasionally going on trips or extracurricular activities, you may be amazed at the abilities they display through interaction with friends. That's why it's important to create an environment in the classroom where children can be themselves. This allows them to more easily showcase their talents.
As parents or teachers, we should be mindful of habits, tendencies, or influences. For example:
1. Please refrain from saying that our students, daughters, or sons must always come first. This is crucial, and we must understand it clearly. There should be activities that make children happy. There should be things they can be passionate about, energized by, and enjoy. This is something we should be attentive to.
2. Instead of subjecting children to talent competitions commonly seen on TV, let's remember that each individual has talents and can contribute to society. As we have seen, talent is not just about the stories of great artists. For example, if there is a talent for saving oneself or others, that is enough to be happy. Talent is synonymous with happiness. We must value talent.
3. Children are not a reflection of their parents. For instance, in sports, we may see parents who force their children to exert their full strength even if they cannot achieve it. Such parents impose a lot of pressure on their children. For example, insisting that they must play the flute or become a doctor. Please do not try to impose on children what we have not done ourselves. Even if we could do it, children have their own way of living. Encourage and advise them. Children are not a reflection of mom and dad.
Generally, we are always learning from people nearby, those around us, or those with talents. Learning diversity from the people around us is essential to being humble.
